The Story behind Maurizell

Musical journey

Maurizell is a singer and songwriter born and raised in Lima, Peru. The music journey of Maurizell started 16 years ago when Maurizell wrote a compilation of songs about darkness & sadness inspired by the challenging teenage years. Just a notebook and a voice recorder were the only things Maurizell needed to feel sufficient and channel all their current feelings. Songwriting has always been Maurizell's favorite aptitude and practice, driven by the passion for music and the sensation of reassurance that kept Maurizell doing it.

Maurizell's influences go back to the early years of listening to The Carpenters, Elton Jhon, and Leonard Cohen, then over the years, artists like Enya, Björk, Sufjan Stevens, and Lana Del Rey were added to the list. Music related to the new age, ambient, alternative, and chamber will always mark the core of Maurizell's sound.

In 2017, Maurizell started a 3-year certification in vocal coaching to enhance singing techniques and boost confidence. Once completed and ready to take the next step, Maurizell released the first single called Point of No Return under the artistic name of Maurice in March 2020. An alternative song produced along with Martin Felipa, that worked as a way to understand and learn about the process of creating music and the function of music streaming services. A couple of months later, in July 2020, Maurizell released Nostalgic Love, and subsequently Nostalgic Love (piano version), a couple of versions from a song that represented what Maurizell defined as an "ambient neo classic orchestral". To find authenticity and coherence in the sound, Maurizell decided to release the latest song under the name Maurice. The song called Paradise in My Mind is a beautiful baroque experimental pop song produced by Franco Lozano.

After 1-year, based in Spain and with new experiences, a new version of Paradise in My Mind called Paradise V.2 was released in 2021 under the official name of Maurizell. A folk and acoustic version that matches perfectly the melody and what was going on in Maurizell’s journey at the moment. With over 200 songs written over the years, Maurizell decided it was time to work on a bigger and more ambitious project. After a year and a half, Maurizell reunited with friend and producer Martin Felipa to work on the first EP - The Road to Paradise I.

From that moment and for almost 8 months, Maurizell worked on revisiting old demos, creating new ones, scrapping unrelated songs, and crafting the perfect introduction for the project. For Maurizell, being independent and not having any type of pressure helped them to assemble the puzzles of their story and enjoy the most beautiful feeling of remembering to live again and better.

In July 2022, the first single of the new record was released, Out of the Black, Into the Blue, a 5-minute song with a spoken intro and an oceanic outro moving through a rollercoaster of emotions concurrently with violins and mesmerizing backing vocals, complete the whole sense of the project in one song. The mantras of this song are the need for transformation, the intelligence for acceptance, and the pursuit of peace and happiness. The uncertainty and being in constant change taught Maurizell that remaining grounded, embracing your loneliness, and staying connected to your goals and dreams were enough to keep riding the ride.

In August 2022, The Road to Paradise I was released, a project constructed as a self-reminder for motivation, retrospective life analysis from a grown perspective, learning lessons, and mastering the art of letting go. From a song that's been written in 2015 like How to Not Give a Fuck enclosing more than 10 demo versions to a song like The Moon is My Witness composed at the last minute on a full moon night by the shore of a peaceful lake, these encapsulate a pure reflection of the things Maurizell cares about and protects.

2024 became the most difficult year of Maurizell’s life. Music stopped, silence took over, and survival came before creation. After a long period of withdrawal and healing, Maurizell returned through Strawberry Moon and this too shall pass — two releases born from vulnerability, endurance, and the need to breathe again.

The final song of this trilogy, completing a deeply personal healing process, will be released soon. It closes a chapter defined by loss, reflection, and transformation.

Maurizell is now working on the next chapter: a return to movement, to light, and to perseverance — a time to dance through adversity and keep going.
